Bartholomew Ibenegbu not baffled by Nigeria snub

The midfielder says he is not puzzled following his non-invitation to the Super Eagles’ squad to face the Pharaohs for a ticket to Gabon 2017
Nigeria international Bartholomew Ibenegbu says he would work harder to get invited for subsequent Super Eagles’ game. The midfielder who has been in fine form for Enyimba this season was left out of Samson Siasia’s 42-man squad for the make or crack 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt.
Ibenegbu told Goal that his omission would afford him the opportunity to continue working for his team towards ensuring that he makes the list in future invitations.

“I won’t groan over my non-invitation to the Super Eagles squad to face Egypt because the coach knows the best legs that can help him get results,” said Ibenegbu.
“Coach Siasia is a great coach and I won’t fault his selection since we are all working for a common goal.
“That does not rule me out of the senior national team, but an indication that I must step up my game to get a look in for subsequent games.”
Hector Cuper’s men top Group G with six points from two games while Nigeria sit in second place with four points, but Ibenegbu who featured for the Super Eagles at the 2016 African Nations Championship is confident that the country will qualify for Gabon 2017.
“The group is still very open and if we win the next two games, I think we will qualify,” he continued.
“Egypt are no pushovers but I am very optimistic that we will get the results against them and qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations,” he concluded.
